Orkut turns 5!

Yipee! Google’s Social Networking Platform - Orkut turns 5 today! Launched back in 2004 in closed-invite-only beta and from going Public  in 2006 has gone through tons and tons of changes yet unable to capture the Global Market which is currently dominated by FaceBook, MySpace & Meebo. Orkut has great follow up in most asian countries and largest being Brazil, one of the reason being the founder of Orkut himself being a Brazillian.

Orkut Turns 5

Though Google’s sees a tough competition among other Socia Netwoking Platform, Orkut has its own crowd of lovers with which Google seems to happy about. Like it or not, Orkut has a long way to go. Well, would you believe if I told you my favorite Social Networking would obviously be Orkut having many friends, connections who find this service much easier to learn and adopt over many others.

You gave me new friends, new life and new form of entertainment, owe you more than just a wish.. and you wouldn’t believe if I told you Orkut is emotionally attached to millions of people’s heart! Go Orkut.. Go! I love the sweet doodle that Google has come up for Orkut.. looks awesome!

Orkut’s gift for Christmas - Orkut Themes

There comes the Santa! Oh Ho.. boy…it’s festive season and look what’s Orkut (Google Social Networking Application) got for us? Themes for Orkut, Themes are a fun way to customize your orkut profile. Here’s how you can change the background of your profile and scrapbook page:

1. Click the settings link on the left sidebar of your orkut homepage or profile page.
2. Go to the themes tab. (If you can’t find it at settings link, click the Edit Profile on the side bar.)
3. Select the theme you’d like to apply to your profile.
4. Click update at the bottom of the page.

If you change your mind, you can always go back to the settings (or) profile page and select another theme.

Bypass Orkut Right Click on Photos

Google’s Social Networking Application - Orkut recently added a small update by disabling people from right clicking on photos inside albums so as to stop them from saving or copying the files.

No clue why this was implemented - to protect privacy or to save their bandwidth (!!) or disbale hot-linking of images? Never mind, with few simple steps you could actually save these photos or get the link to share with friends..!

You don’t have to View the Source code and move around finding the url, instead our very own click n drag in most of the browse helps to bypass these settings. Firefox and Internet Explorer both support these features while the right click disable doesn’t seem to work with Opera (luck you Opera fans!). (more…)

Orkut Skins - Customize your Profile Layout

Sounds like Google’s Social Networking Application - Orkut slipped a new feature today to select users termed “Orkut Skins“. This feature isn’t available for all, but should be in few days like it often does with other features.

The skinning option is available at http://www.orkut.com/EditSkin.aspx (show invalid if you profile is not enabled) and a link at home page at top navigation “change theme“.

Orkut Adds Photo Commenting Feature

Orkut, the social networking application owned and operated by Google, has finally stepped into understanding the real values of Social Networking - ability to interact with your fellow mates - not just by scrapping but leaving a comment in their photos/pictures.

Off late, Orkut has been busy slipping in new features quite often and not to forget their Blog updates coming up very often. This essential feature of allowing users to comment on photos/pictures in a user’s album comes into place. Even having this Orkut lacks lot of features that are essential in a Social Networking platform, probably the developers should spend time analysing the vital features that a crowded Social Networking Platform as Orkut should posses!

Google Launches Yogurt - Social Networking Application

Orkut - Yogurt … smell fish or curd ? Believe it or not.. while I was surfing Orkut today.. I happened to see Orkut Logo replaced with Yogurt.. it gave me a shock.. :O ! And something hit my head from behind… phewwwwww it was April 1st !!.. So orkut made a good fool out of me..! But I believe not much would have been fooled as the logo looks relatively small and since it had the same color and font.. not much would have noticed the change.. ! Good try folks (at Orkut).. but the main page (before logging in) remains same.

But Googlers around the world had nice time getting fooled with various versions of Google.com search and its application services .. ! Here are few to keep you interesting… and hey don’t forget to check the picture on the side of post which had the logo replaced as yogurt (instead of orkut!)..
