GMail Charges for Additional Space!

logo

Yeap! You read it right.. Past few weeks I have been running out of space in my GMail main account. It either shows 98% or 99% storage space full and each day I had to delete unwanted email, clear my junks and spam messages. All other emails are needed for my future references/archieve. When I logged into my GMail account I was surprised to see a small text surrouned in a yellow box which read “You are almost out of space for your Gmail account. You can view our tips on reducing your email storage or purchase additional storage.”

I was surprised for a moment, why? I haven’t seen such message in past few months even though my account was at 98% or 99%. Does this mean the space ticker at GMail home page would stop and no more increase in storage of GMail space for its use? I am still sceptic about this, lets see what the geeks out there blog about it. I am not sure if I am the only use who gets this message or probably many out there. Whats interesting is, folks at GMail Team give you both tips to reducing email storage and also enourage to purchase additional storage (similar to Google Apps where you can purchase a premiere version for $50).Similar message appears even towards the bottom of the page where you see the amount of disk space used and the text reads “You are currently using 2854 MB (98%) of your 2886 MB Need more space? Upgrade your storage

Not just GMail, Google charges even if you have exceeded your space at Picasa Web (online photo album). I have added attachments of my Inbox, their check page (to purchase additional space) and tips which is available at their help section. Way to go google! Now I understand why you encourage to use more & more space (comments inside GMail), good marketting tactics :D !!
Cheers & Kudos to Google Marketing Team! :)
